Hecate was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. Daughter Titanes Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and the sea. This depicts her wisdom and healer aspects, which were vital to midwives and common people into the Middle Ages. 

Hecate embodies the triple goddess aspect- heaven, earth, underworld. Her torch of lunar fire, serpent of immortality, and knife of midwifery of primal power.
